J.K. Rowling is planning on starting the final installment of Harry Potter's story next month.

"I contemplate the task with mingled feelings of excitement and dread, because I can't wait to get started, to tell the final part of the story and, at last, to answer all the questions (will I ever answer all of the questions? Let's aim for most of the questions); and yet it will all be over at last and I can't quite imagine life without Harry...I have been fine-tuning the fine-tuned plan of seven during the past few weeks so that I can really set to work in January." J.K. Rowling recently wrote on her website.

Left Round Edge Marvel / Dark Tower Project Delayed December 08, 2005 Right Round Edge
Stephen King is working with Marvel to produce a series of comic books inspired by and adapted from his Dark Tower novels, and will integrate scenes from the novels with new material, creating a linear history of Roland Deschain as a young man.

Stephen King and Marvel have decided to push back the launch of the Dark Tower comic books to 2007. "Given the size of the project and all the creative talent involved, I want to give the Marvel series all the room to breathe it needs and deserves," said King. "I've got so much else going on in 2006 - two novels coming out, CELL and LISEY'S STORY, and the work with John Mellencamp on 'Ghost Brothers of Darkland County.' The Marvel series is going to be a blast, and I want to have the time to enjoy it."

The 1st issue of the yet-to-be-named first arc of the Dark Tower comic series will be shipping in February 2007. The last issue of this six-issue series will be shipping in July 2007. The first hardcover collection will be shipping in October 2007. Source. (discuss this post by Elayne)

Left Round Edge Dresden Movie in the Works November 15, 2005 Right Round Edge
There is a movie in the works that is based on the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. It is for the SciFi channel so here is what they have to say about it (from www.scifi.com/scifiwire2005/index.php?id=33221)

Blackthorne To Play Dresden

SCI FI Channel has cast Paul Blackthorne (24) as Chicago-based wizard and detective Harry Dresden in its upcoming TV movie The Dresden Files. David Carson (Star Trek: Generations) has been tapped to direct the two-hour backdoor pilot, which will commence production in Toronto later this month, with plans for a summer 2006 premiere, the network said. Blackthorne is perhaps best known as the villainous Stephen Saunders on Fox's 24.

The Dresden Files is based on the best-selling series of novels by Jim Butcher. It is being produced by Lions Gate Television, in association with Nicolas Cage's Saturn Films. Hans Beimler (Profiler) and Robert Wolfe (The 4400) will serve as executive producers alongside Cage, his Saturn Films partner, Norm Golightly, and Morgan Gendel. Beimler and Wolfe wrote the script.

The Dresden Files centers on Dresden, a private eye with extraordinary abilities. Where others see typical crimes of assault, kidnapping and murder, he sees otherworldly forces at work.

Left Round Edge Keith Parkinson Died October 30, 2005 Right Round Edge
I am very very sad to report that Keith Parkinson, artist for cover art for Terry Goodkind and David Eddings to name a few, has passed on.

The following is from http://www.darkswordminiatures.com/

In Memoriam: Keith Arlin Parkinson October 22, 1958 - October 26, 2005

October 27th, 2005 Update: The fantasy art world, family and friends have lost one of the all time greats - Mr. Keith Arlin Parkinson. Keith's wife Donna has informed us that shortly after 4:00pm PST on Wednesday October 26th Keith peacefully passed away, surrounded by his loving family. Keith had been battling Leukemia for the past 16 months. Keith fought the good fight every step of the way and at one point he had it beat. At that point, we all thought he was in the clear and we were even talking about him attending Gen Con Indy 2006 to build up his immune system with all the lovely sights and smells that tend to rear up at Gen Con. But it came back hard and in the end it was more than his body could handle.

I have just gotten off the phone with Larry Elmore and we are both simply at a loss. We had both been in touch with Keith throughout the entire process and the many ups and downs that the past 16 months have thrown his way.Keith was the youngest member of the "Fab Four" from the TSR Glory Years and was perhaps the most diverse with his many book covers and video game covers (Everquest was built around his artwork/vision). Keith was one sharp cat and simply just plain cool to talk with for hours about a wide range of topics. Keith was such a trooper, he insisted on signing the Limited Edition Parkinson Masterworks Set # 2 boxes while in the hospital. There was a top secret piece we were working on that Keith really wanted to see produced in 2006 as a personal favor. We jumped on it early to lift his spirits (unknown to Keith) , but as fate would have it, Keith never did get to see Mr. Gringe Commander in its "fully sculpted Tom Meier glory" or the new Northwatch piece from Dave Summers...Until Wed October 26th sometime after 4:00 pm PST that is....So the next time it is appropriate, please lift your glasses and toast one of the all time greats and his most excellent family... Left Round Edge Reviews - Ship of Destiny, by Robin Hobb August 14, 2005 Right Round Edge
I'm a bit torn on how to go about rating this book. I can't help but compare the Liveship trilogy against the Farseer trilogy. But the only true similiaries lie in the fact that it takes place in the same world, that Robin Hobb is the author, and that the stories were beautifully written.

As this is the final in the trilogy, I will give an brief review of the series, and then a few words specific to this book.

In Farseer, we see almost the entire story from the perspective of Fitz. Through the Liveship trilogy we have seen the story from a myriad of different characters. This gave the book a different kind of strength, as well as a different kind of weakness. (read more) (discuss this post by Orion)
