Jim Butcher is a martial arts enthusiast with fifteen years of experience in various styles including Ryukyu Kempo, Tae Kwan Do, Gojo Shorei Ryu, and a sprinkling of Kung Fu. He is a skilled rider and has worked as a summer camp horse wrangler and performed in front of large audiences in both drill riding and stunt riding exhibitions.

Jim enjoys fencing, singing, bad science fiction movies and live-action gaming. He lives in Missouri with his wife, son, and a vicious guard dog.

Jim goes by the moniker Longshot in a number of online locales. He came by this name in the early 1990's when he decided he would become a published author. Usually only 3 in 1000 who make such an attempt actually manage to become published; of those, only 1 in 10 make enough money to call it a living. The sale of a second series was the breakthrough that let him beat the long odds against attaining a career as a novelist.

All the same, he refuses to change his nickname.

The first chapter of the new Dresden Files novel, Turn Coat, is up here. There will be a new chapter every week for the next 5 weeks. Turn Coat is schedule to be released April 7th, 2009.

Based on content from the official Jim Butcher website (www.jim-butcher.com), it appears the title for the 11th Dresden Files installment might be Turn Coat.

The Dresden Files, by author Jim Butcher, is set to be "translated" into graphic novel form by Dabel Brother's Production. From the official Butcher website "The current plan is to lay out the Dresden Files storyline at the rate of one of the novels every twelve to sixteen monthly issues, with occasional side-trips and independent stories thrown in."

Of particular note from the session was that Butcher wants to do about 20 Dresden Files "case" books, and a final "apocolyptic" trilogy. And the working title for the next book in the series is Small Favor.

The SCI FI Channel has ordered 11 episodes of The Dresden Files, based on Jim Butcher's best-selling books, the network said. Nicolas Cage's Saturn Films and Lionsgate TV will produce the series, which kicks off with a two-hour pilot in January 2007!

Although not officially released until May 2, 2006, Jim Butcher's latest Dresden Files novel Proven Guilty has been sited in bookstores!

Blackthorne To Play Dresden

SCI FI Channel has cast Paul Blackthorne (24) as Chicago-based wizard and detective Harry Dresden in its upcoming TV movie The Dresden Files. David Carson (Star Trek: Generations) has been tapped to direct the two-hour backdoor pilot, which will commence production in Toronto later this month, with plans for a summer 2006 premiere, the network said. Blackthorne is perhaps best known as the villainous Stephen Saunders on Fox's 24.

The Dresden Files is based on the best-selling series of novels by Jim Butcher. It is being produced by Lions Gate Television, in association with Nicolas Cage's Saturn Films. Hans Beimler (Profiler) and Robert Wolfe (The 4400) will serve as executive producers alongside Cage, his Saturn Films partner, Norm Golightly, and Morgan Gendel. Beimler and Wolfe wrote the script.

The Dresden Files centers on Dresden, a private eye with extraordinary abilities. Where others see typical crimes of assault, kidnapping and murder, he sees otherworldly forces at work.
